Katherine Spencer Halpern is Professor Emeritus at American University, and had known Philleo since her student days at the University of Chicago. She has worked as an applied anthropologist in a number of American Indian communities. She too now lives in Santa Fe, and is associated with the Wheelwright Museum. Ruth Landman is a Professor at American University, and began her acquaintance with Philleo Nash when she invited him to join the anthropology department there. Together they later organized a Margaret Mead Institute, and served as officers of the Anthropological Society of Washington.
