February. 1994, El Salvador is still reeling from nearly ten years of civil war.With six weeks to go before the first free national election, the country is rife with conspiracies and assassinations. Sent to El Salvador on a banking mission, Ray Irving is thrust into the turmoil. Will he survive? Visualizing death at the hands of a firing squad, a mob of armed banditos, or even a throng of irate bank customers, Ray is certain he won't. During his two-week stay, he is kidnapped twice, clashes with a cynical professor from Iowa State University, meets a young Salvadoran woman looking for her colleague's murderer, a ten-year-old orphan and a killer bent on revenge. Ray learns that an over-active imagination is no substitute for real life, that bravery comes in all shapes and sizes, and that love is possible even for a mouse of a man who tiptoes around the edges of life.
